    MOUNT VERNON- Jean “JC” Colter, 68, passed away at home on April 20, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was born in Houlton on March 4, 1940, the daughter of Clyde and Geneva (Dobson) Ross.
    She married the love of her life, Wendell Colter, on April 15th, 1960, and traveled the world as a military wife until his retirement in 1979. Jean dedicated her life to caring for others and became an RNC, working at Augusta General Hospital for 20 years. Her passion for changing lives led her to a career in Bariatrics, where she became an industry leader as the Co-Founder/Co-CEO of Obesity Help Incorporated. As an advocate for patient support and education, she authored and published many articles and traveled throughout the United States speaking to Bariatric professionals and patients. She touched many lives throughout her lifetime. Her love and laughter will forever live on the wings of time.
    The family wishes to thank HealthReach Hospice, Dr. Magioncalda, Dr. Brassard, the nurses and staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care and Kennebec Valley Professional Pharmacy for their care and compassion throughout Jean’s illness.
    She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Jackie Kalinowski. Married 48 years, she is survived by her husband, Wendell Colter of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Tammy Colter, Jackie Lovering, Julie Colter (Keith); son, Scott Colter; her loving aunt, Grace Ross-Campbell (Lil’ Momma); grandchildren, Dane, Trevor, Megan, Eric and Alexis; half brother, Kenneth Steenrod (Carolyn); half sister, Sandy Hazlett; and many other beloved family members and friends.
    A private family committal service will be held in the Chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
