The 2008 Washburn District High School varsity softball team will don the Beaver uniforms for the love of America’s favorite summer pastime with youthful motivation this season.     The Beavers graduated centerfielder Amy Reed, first baseman Amber Palmer and rightfielder Margo McIntosh and gained an army of freshmen anxious to fill their places.
The ’08 WDHS squad has five right-handed pitchers including senior Kelsee McLaughlin; sophomore Amber Reed; and freshmen Rebecca Campbell, Dakota Koch and Meghan Saucier.
The remaining players on the team are senior Kristen Goupille; junior Rachel Palmer; sophomore Kayla Pike; and freshmen Lindsey Blackstone, Sarah Sjoberg, Kayla Brewer, Hillary Jackson and Amanda Libby.
“This year’s team is much younger than in the past years,” said head coach Tammy Tatlock. “All players seem to be very knowledgeable of the sport. The team is looking at having a successful and fun season.”
According to Tatlock, Limestone may have the strongest Class D team in the area with their tradition of solid batting and pitching. “Many teams have lost key players, which should make for an interesting and different season for all,” explained Tatlock.
Goupille and McLaughlin will co-captain the Beavers. Owen James will manage the team.
