Summer recreation program registration
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks will hold registration for its summer programs May 21-23 for Presque Isle residents.  Non-residents may register beginning May 27. Registration takes place at the William V. Haskell Community Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

    The summer brochures will be distributed to local schools and will also be available to be picked up at the community center.  
    Among the programs offered are adventure camp, kayaking, mountain biking, Hershey track and field, girls’ softball, baseball, tennis, swimming lessons and arts and crafts.   
Team pictures
    If your child has had their team picture taken and you would like an electronic copy, please email adampirec@maine.rr.com with your child’s name, sport and team name.
Indoor Pool
The Presque Isle indoor pool will be offering several classes this summer. Registration begins on Tuesday, May 27. The pool will be closed on Memorial Day Monday, May 26.
    Lifeguard classes: June 4, 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or June 8, 14 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must be 15-years-old or older, and be able to swim 300 yards doing the front crawl and breaststroke and retrieve a 10-pound brick. Space is limited.
    CPR renewal class: June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Presque Isle Recreation Center.
    Parent-toddler and infant classes: Tuesdays at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 6 p.m.
    Three-year-old classes: Mondays at 4:30 p.m. or 6 p.m., Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 9 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.
    Four- to 5-year-old non-swimming classes: Mondays at 4 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m.
    Swimming 3- to 5-year-old classes: Mondays at 7 p.m.; Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m.; Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.; Thursdays at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
    Learn to swim one classes (for those 6-years-old or older and unable to swim 15 yards): Mondays at 9 a.m., Wednesdays at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. and Thursdays at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
    Learn to swim two-three classes: Mondays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Tuesdays at 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; and Wednesdays or Thursdays at 1 p.m.
    Level IV-VI classes: Mondays at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m., Tuesdays at 11 a.m. or 4 p.m. and Thursdays at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m.
    Water exercise classes: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. or Monday and Wednesday at 6 p.m.
    Water jogging classes: Mondays at 4 p.m., Tuesdays at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m., Wednesdays at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
    Adult lessons: Mondays at 1 p.m. or Thursdays at 7 p.m.
    Basic water safety course: This is a four hour course designed to present easy-to-remember safety tips for community and backyard pools, lakes, rivers, oceans and more.
    The course is ideal for parents and people who participate in activities in and around water. Participants must be willing to practice in shallow water (swimming is not necessary). The course satisfies foster care requirements and day care providers. The American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue Certification is valid for three years. The course will run on June 4 beginning at 6 p.m. To register, call 764-2564.
