Anderson, Fredrick J., 96, Stockholm, in Stockholm, May 20, 2008. Arrangements are in the care of the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou.  
 Image   STOCKHOLM – Frederick J. Anderson, 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 20, 2008, at his home while surrounded by his family. He was born April 3, 1912, in Stockholm, Maine, the second oldest son of John and Alma (Peterson) Anderson.
    Fred graduated from the Stockholm schools as well as Caribou High School. While attending Caribou, he skied for the Carnival Team. The team went by train to Rumford and won the State Championship. He enrolled in the University of Alabama, bought a Model A Ford and drove to Tuscaloosa for the year of 1934-1935. Fred along with his brother Fernald purchased Andersons Store from their father in 1942. Fred then purchased his brother’s part of the store and was sole owner until 1972, when Fernald repurchased the store.
    He will be remembered for his humming behind the meat counter at the store. He was very active in the community serving as town treasurer, selectman, and fire chief for twenty two years,. He served in the 111th Maine State Legislature in 1982-1983. He was active in the Stockholm Historical Society where he was treasure for many years. Fred was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and served in many different capacities there, such as the church choir where he sang bass and was noted for his beautiful voice. Other organizations he belonged to were the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor and the Masonic Lodge #170 of Caribou. He was a founding member of the Nordic Lakers and enjoyed snowmobiling as well as riding his ATV, both of which he did until he was 95. He also cross country skied until he was 94 years old. One of Fred’s favorite outings was an afternoon at the hunting camp Knockout. Fortunately not a lot of deer interrupted the game of chance. Fred has also in later years enjoyed in the company of his best friends, the Investment Club 20.
    He is survived by two daughters Judy Bleiler of Aspen, CO, and Suzy Anderson and her husband Bob Rankin of Stockholm, as well as a sister Vivian Anderson of Stockholm. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Merrita (Dunn) Anderson, a sister Astrid Sandstrom, five brothers; Clarence, Fernald, Elwood, Francis, and Warren.
    A memorial service was conducted 3 P.M. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockholm with Pastor James Morgan officiating. Following the service a celebration of his life was held at Eureka Hall from 4-6 P.M.
