EMERGENCY PERSONNEL were running – and riding – for a good cause on June 5, as participants took part in the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics. Arriving in downtown Presque Isle to the cheer of about 40 local Special Olympians were, from left: Officer Shawn Newell, Presque Isle Police Department;
Game Warden Dan Menard; Steve Wipperman, Maine Forest Service; torch bearer Zack Barnes, son of Sgt. Mark Barnes of the PIPD; Rob Gross, Maine Forest Service; Game Warden Alan Dudley; Heather Gagnon, of the Limestone Police Department; Officer Lynn Hartley, of the PIPD; Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, of the PIPD; and Fireman Fred Parsons, of the Presque Isle Fire Department. Not visible but riding a bicycle in the event was Jocelyn Marquis, court secretary for the PIPD. Participants used bicycles this year, taking turns riding and biking for the Presque Isle leg of the run from the Caribou town line to Mars Hill. Continuing to Mars Hill were: Newell, Dudley, Gagnon, Selfridge, Hartley. Running as far as the Jamison Rd. intersection were: Gross, Wipperman and Menard. Drivers for the event were: Sgt. Barnes; Dan Corey, animal control officer for the PIPD; Grant Spinney, of the PIFD; and Adam Michaud, of Crown Ambulance.
