The Easton branch of Friends Helping Friends food pantry is scheduled to begin distribution Saturday, July 19 at the Odd Fellows Hall on the Station Road from 1-3 p.m. Any Easton resident may come and complete an eligibility form at that time. To ensure that you will be able to take a box home with you on that day, however, please mail in the form you received in the mail by July 16.
You will receive a reply confirming that they have received your form and that your box will be ready to be picked up on the 19th. If you do not have access to a vehicle, they can make arrangements to have your food delivered, simply indicate on the form that this is the case.
Easton Field Days
Easton Field Days got off to a good start with perfectly fine weather. The Golf Tournament held at Mike Milbury’s Golf Course on the West Ridge Road was won by the team of Kevin Nichols, Larry Nichols, Kathy Bradley and Ed Johnson. On Thursday and Friday evenings, the Basketball Tournament, made up of teams from Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill, Washburn, and Easton, played exciting games with Mars Hill coming out the winner after the play-off with the Easton Bears … a well-fought game ending in a 45-49 score. Also on Friday evening, the Easton Kiwanis fed many with their Chicken Barbeque, followed by movies for the youngsters and a Cribbage Tournament for the older people. Travis Carter won this tournament and his wife, Sheri, came in second. Saturday morning started off with breakfast at the Odd Fellows Hall, put on by the Easton Extension, followed by the annual parade.
The Car Show up on the Elementary School grounds had some beauties for show. The winners will be reported next week. There were food booths galore along with many tables with articles for sale. The strawberry shortcake table sponsored by the ATV Club was a very popular one. Two tables were there with home baked goods, and beautiful hand-woven baskets of all shapes, as well as woven hats. These tables were manned by women from two different Amish families in the area.
The Easton Pattie-Page Post 187 American Legion’s annual bean hole bean supper was put on at the Odd Fellow’s Hall this year on Saturday evening, and was well attended. At 9:30 p.m., the fireworks went off. Many said it was the best they had seen this year and was certainly the best that Easton has had since beginning them. On Sunday morning, the Easton United Methodist Church held their church service in the little Union Church on Ladner Hill in the River-de-Chute with 36 people in attendance from Easton, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Somersville, and Texas. The late Paul Bradley was remembered by Pastor Dan Blevins, as being one who had much love and care for the old church and also for the Easton United Methodist Church. In the afternoon, another church service was held at the Easton Elementary gym that was also well attended. A great time was had by many.
Visits
Some of those from away who were here to visit and attended the long Easton Field Days weekend were Richard and Donna Wolverton of Colchester, Conn. Dan and Judy Wathen, of Augusta, visited with their good friend, Jackie Bradley. Bernard Hussey Jr., and his grandson, Devon Hussey, and friend, Becky Sanbourn, of Ellsworth, were here to visit with Bernie’s father, Bernard Hussey, and to attend the events of Easton’s Field Day. Joan Osterbloom of Readlens, Calif. was in Fort Fairfield visiting with her brother, Robert Osterbloom and family, who also attended the Easton Field Days. Maurice Hewitt and companion, Pattie Fitzherbert, of Interchen, Fla. are here to visit with his mother, Marie Hewitt, and other family members. Dawn Quelle of Coralville, Iowa, flew home to visit with her mom and dad, Dottie and Duncan Beaton. She didn’t have time to attend the Field Day events, as she was busy helping her parents move into an apartment in Presque Isle. Roberta (Bobbie) Rawen of North Carolina, was also home to spend some time with her father, Bob McPherson. Junior (Lewis) Hayden of Pleasanton, Texas, spent the long weekend in Mars Hill and Easton, attending most of the events at the Field Day weekend.
Parks and Recreation Notes
On Wednesday, July 16, there will be a field trip to Turner’s Camp and the Animal Wildlife Refuge. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. The cost is $3. Children should bring a floatation device, a towel, sunscreen, and a labeled water bottle. Please have your child dress in their swimsuit to help with changing arrangements. Lunch will be provided.
Tee-ball will also be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 on the field behind the high school.
On Thursday, July 17, there will be a Day Camp from 9 a.m.-noon at the hall. Today’s theme will be royalty.
Seniors Seasonal Sensations will be at 12:15 p.m. at the recreation room at the Manor.
Gymnastics Camp at 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
FINAL Minor League game at home at 5:30 p.m. Children should be at the field by 5:10 p.m. A team photo will be taken, please be in uniform.
On Friday, July 18, there will be swimming lessons; departing at 8:35 a.m. and returning by 10:15 a.m.
Hike at Aroostook State Park and Trasks’ Camp. The bus will depart at 10:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $1 for children ($3 for adults) to enter the State Park and socks/sneakers must be worn to hike.
Gymnastics Camp at 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
On Monday, July 21, there will be a Day Camp from 9 a.m.-noon at the hall. Today’s theme will be water day.
Playgroup will be offered from 12:15 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at the hall for those in kindergarten and younger.
Swimming at Fort Fairfield Outdoor Pool. The bus will leave from the hall at 1:45 p.m. and return by 4:15 p.m. Children must be able to swim to attend this trip or have an adult swim with them.

On Tuesday, July 22, there will be a Day Camp from 9 a.m.-noon at the hall. Today we will be going to the King’s Dairy Farm.
