On July 13, a celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Richard and Claudette (Shields) DeLong was held at the Horn of Plenty restaurant in Island Falls.
The event was hosted by their children, Carol Ann and Peter DeLong, and attended by many friends and relatives, many of whom arrived from the northern part of the county where the DeLong’s grew up. The affair was catered by Bill Roderick and Nancy Levin, owners of the restaurant and dinners were served to the invited guests by Nancy and her excellent crew.
The DeLongs were surprised by this celebration and very happy to see all their friends of many years there. They now live permanently in Florida, with a visit to Maine in the summer, which they say is sometimes too short.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Webb have returned home after spending a few days in Dexter with Charlene’s sister and husband, Freela and Clayton Lancaster. While there they attended the 90th birthday party of Charlene’s former brother-in-law, which was held at Pushaw Lake.
Virginia Mooers, former resident of Island Falls, has returned home to Virginia after spending some time in the area and also was a guest of Ava Joy for two days and they had a good time visiting with the friends Virginia knew, including Cleo Sewall, now living in Patten.
No news in the menagerie department. Still have the black cat in attendance, but I only see him in the morning when he waits patiently in the barn for me to bring him his breakfast. No deer sighting in the past two weeks, although some old bread I took out disappeared. Maybe the crows got it all. I seem to have plenty of those who appear on my lawn every afternoon about 5 p.m.
I am still enjoying swimming at the pool at Vacationland Estates and I am joined every day by Leora Byron and Doris Pankratz and occasionally two friends from Sherman show up.
My garden looks good — potatoes are really growing fast — plus the carrots. Tomatoes are so-so, though I do have several green ones on my two little plants. Hope the deer don’t show up and eat them all.
