Maine Hospice hosts bike event

    BRUNSWICK – On August 23, riders and walkers from around Maine will participate in the Maine Hospice Event in memory of Dan Michaud and other loved ones.     Registration and home base will open at 7:30 a.m. at the Gazebo on Maine Street, Brunswick. This year’s event features three distances – 25, 50 and 75 miles.
    This event started 22 years ago when Tom Legare of Brunswick, and his friends Andy Pietkiewcz and Mickey Cote rode 200 miles to raise money to support cancer research.  
    Since then, riders from around Maine have continued to ride and raise money to benefit hospice and end-of-life care for individuals and families in Maine.
    All pledged funds are donated to the Maine Hospice Council, the only state-wide organization solely dedicated to improving care at the end of life, and Hospice Volunteers: Center for Grief and Loss in Mid-Coast Maine, the local, volunteer, direct-service hospice provider.
    Ride registration opens at 7:30 a.m., for 50 and 75 mile riders and 9:30 for 25 mile riders. The Blues Buzzards will perform from noon to 3:00 p.m.
    Pre-registration is not required. Please call the Maine Hospice Council or visit their website for information about registration fees and pledge minimums.
    The ride is a fully supported ride with backup vehicles, cycle mechanic, radio communication and rest stops.
