Registration fees going up

AUGUSTA — Maine drivers soon will be paying more to register their vehicles.
Beginning Sept. 1, fees will increase by $10 for vehicle registrations, vanity license plates and titles.
Don Cookson, spokesman for the secretary of state’s office, said the added fees will generate revenue to support bridge and road maintenance.
The increased fees were made possible by a bill, “An Act of Keep Bridges Safe and Roads Passable” that was signed into law last April.
