Bangor Savings named best place to work

Bangor Savings Bank was recently named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine for 2008. Last month, the Society for Human Resource Management’s Maine State Council announced 26 companies that have been named to this year’s list.
The assessment process, aimed at recognizing companies that have established and fostered an outstanding workplace environment, is administered by the Best Companies Group. The group evaluates each company’s employee policies and procedures along with responses from the company’s employees. The program also helps companies on a firsthand basis by presenting an “Assessment Findings Report” to each participating company, which provides significant benchmarks and helps that company maintain, enhance, improve or change policies and procedures in its workplace.
Bangor Savings Bank, Maine’s largest independent bank, has grown over the past eleven years from 14 branches and 244 employees concentrated in eastern Maine, to 51 branches and 624 employees statewide.
Jim Conlon, CEO of Bangor Savings Bank commented on the announcement, “This recognition is a wonderful confirmation of our efforts over the past few years to make Bangor Savings Bank the employer of choice in Maine for the best financial professionals looking for a focused, challenging, ethical, and rewarding place to work. It is especially gratifying because this honor is based on an objective evaluation from outside, and really driven by what our own employees had to say about the company on confidential surveys. We exist because of our customers, but we know we can’t serve customers with real, consistent excellence unless our employees are valued and supported, so that they can all share in delivering our customer service promise – You Matter More.”
Bangor Savings Bank is a community bank with the statewide resources to offer a comprehensive array of financial services. From York County to Aroostook County, the Bank delivers innovative products such as the Bank’s Free ATMs Worldwide and charitable giving programs such as Community Matters More, which has involved tens of thousands of community members in helping Maine non-profits.
The Best Places to Work program is presented in conjunction with the Best Companies Group, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Department of Labor, The Maine Job Council, Employment Times and Mainebiz.
