Houlton artist Roger Morin’s painting, “Living our History”, will be featured at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Va. during the month of October.
The Grand Lodge of Maine is responsible for the monthly display featuring one of the 52 Masonic Grand Lodges marking up American Freemasonry. Each state has a grand lodge as does the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Morin was commissioned by the Grand Lodge of Maine to paint what has been named “Living Our History” for its national display. Consulting with Morin was Richard Rhoda, current master of Monument Lodge in Houlton, and also Grand Historian for the Grand Lodge of Maine.
An accomplished painter, Morin retired from the fast pace of southern Maine to Houlton in 2003 and opened his own studio on Court Street in Houlton. Morin is also a former State of Maine Chess Champion.
Morin recently petitioned Monument Lodge for membership and has received his Fellow Craft degree, the second of the three degrees to be received to become a Master Mason.
A detailed explanation of the painting, prepared by Rhoda, will accompany the painting for display purposes to help explain the content of the painting to the non masons.
The painting will be returned to the Portland office of the Grand Lodge of Maine following its display at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Thereafter, it will be circulated around the state to the various Masonic lodges, of which there are 187, for public viewing.
