Oakfield seniors to take in Fall foliage

On Wednesday Sept. 17, 2008 Linda Trickey of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension was the guest speaker at the Oakfield Senior Citizen meeting. Linda brought with her samples of the sugar content of many of our favorite foods — who would believe that there would be that much sugar in one Pop-Tart or one chocolate candy bar? Linda encouraged everyone to eat more whole grain breads and whole wheat pasta. It was a very informative meeting and we are looking forward to her next visit.
After enjoying a tasty potluck luncheon, Bob Locke called the meeting to order and the 29 members and five guests recited the Lord’s Prayer and flag salute. All reports were read and accepted.
There will be no meeting on Oct. 1 as our Fall Foliage trip will be on Saturday, Oct. 4.  The bus will leave the Oakfield Community Center at 8 a.m. then to Island Falls then on our way up Route 11 for sightseeing with lunch at the Lakeview Restaurant in St. Agatha.
Mystery gift winners this week were: Velma Cale, Peggy Sanders and Marie Gillotti.
Those attending were: Shirley Smith, Hope Anderson, Nancy Lawrence, Tessie Barrett, Bunny Stewart, Geneva Bell, Karen and Bob Davis from Maryland, Merle Burpee, Raeanne Bates, Evelyn Burpee, Wannetta Townsend, Velma Cale, Jenefine Stevens, Don Marley, Bernice Campbell, Bessie Sawyer, Larry Sanders, Marie Gillotti, Arnold Roach, Nacie Fowler, Roger Ethier, Joe Messina, Delores Locke, Jackie Kennedy, Peggy Sanders, Lydia Bragan, Bob Locke, Ursula Levesque, Doreen Messina, Charlotte Lowell, Kathleen Boutilier, Charlotte Marley and Linda Trickey.
