WOODLAND – Rhoda L. (Wark) Atcheson, 77, died Sept. 26, 2008, at her residence, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born Dec. 8, 1930, on her family's farm, Thibodeau Road, Woodland. Rhoda was the youngest and last surviving of eight children born to Rhoda L. (Wright) and William J. Wark. Rhoda was educated in the one-room Snowman School House, Woodland, and was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1948. Throughout the years she regularly participated in the organizing of her class reunions. Rhoda was a longtime member of Caribou United Baptist Church. Until her marriage, she worked as a secretary at the Federal and State Inspection Service. On Oct. 13, 1953, she married Kenneth W. Atcheson of Patterson, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in Osceola, Iowa, and Woodland for more than 50 years. Rhoda took great pride in being a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt to her family, who so cherished her. We will always remember her gentle smile, strong opinions and her famous brownies.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Kenneth W. Atcheson of Woodland; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth W. Atcheson II and his wife, Judith, of Presque Isle and Thomas J. Atcheson and his wife, Sharon, of Woodland; five very special grandchildren, Amanda E. Atcheson of Portland, Kyle T. Atcheson of Presque Isle, Danielle R. Atcheson of Woodland, Abigail L. Atcheson of Presque Isle and Jacob J. Atcheson of Woodland, all of whom adoringly called her "Bunny." Rhoda is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Melissa Kershaw of Belmont, Mass., and David Curran of Caribou, and several other loving nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by two special friends, Pearl Drost of Caribou and Linda Sirois of Fort Fairfield.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008, from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Interment took place at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Curran, Peter Curran, Gordon Wark, William Wark, James Wark and Jeffrey Wark.
