Republican Victory — Taft & Sherman elected. 626 votes were cast in Houlton, Taft 448, Bryan 139, Prohibition 20, Independent 4, and 9 defective.
Potatoes — The market remains about the same as last week at $1.50. Few potatoes are being brought in.

Aroostook County — Aroostook County, Maine, was the leading county not only in acreage of potatoes harvested, representing 4.5 per cent of the total potato acreage in the United States, but also in production, and value, according to an announcement of the Bureau of the census. Clay County, Minn. was second.
Prize Winners — At the recent contest held by the Dunn Furniture Store when a lecture was given on the Health and Red Cross bedding, the following were the holders of the lucky tickets. Mrs. James Skehan and Mrs. John Palmer won Red Cross mattresses; Mrs. Cora Cumming and L.J. Graham won floor lamps.
New Doctor — Dr. C.F. Hogan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Hogan of this town who for the past year has been located at Limestone has moved to Houlton. He will commence the practice of his profession on Monday in the French block, which was formerly occupied by T.V. Doherty.
Monticello — One of the most interesting services ever held here in Monticello, took place Sunday afternoon at the bridge of the Mednuxnekeag River when Rev. B.C. Bubar assisted by Rev. L.C. Good baptized 74 candidates in the river not withstanding the ice that lined the shore, About 1,500 people witnessed the ceremony.

Perfect Attendance — Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ivey and their two children, Carol 11, and Wendell, 14 have not missed attending Sunday Church School at the Military Street Baptist Church for two years. Linwood Lawrence, Sunday school superintendent presented each member of the family with a pin in recognition of their steady attendance. Mr. Ivey is employed at the Houlton Farms Dairy. Twenty-two others also had perfect attendance during the past 24 months at the church school.
Landmark to be torn down — The former Atlas Plywood building, constructed in the 1890’s and long a landmark in Houlton will be demolished following action by the executive board of the Houlton Regional Development Corporation. The contract calls for removing the large four-story factory and the office building, a total of 33,000 square feet of space. The barrel factory and garage in the rear will remain intact. The buildings were purchased by the HRDC for $7,500. When first constructed, the building was used by the Houlton Woolen Mill Company and in 1911, the textile firm, added an extension, During the 1920’s the plywood concern purchased the lot and buildings.
Island Falls — Johnny O’Hara celebrated his fourth birthday and his cousin Alec Qualey celebrated his ninth birthday at a double birthday party October 29, given by Johnny’s mother, Mrs. Ivan O’Hara, Jr.

Monticello — The Old Gents held their annual dinner at Wotton’s camp with 18 present. Lyman Wood had the honor of being the oldest, at 90. Others attending were: Roy White, Roscoe Small and Ora Mooers of Houlton, Howard and George Wotton, Waldo Hanning and the Rev. Gerald Swetnam of Littleton. Also, Maurice Wotton, George Hutchinson of Monticello and the Rev. Burton Hoyt of Fort Fairfield, Jerry Newman, Howard Stairs and the Rev. Whitfield Curtis, of Hartland, N.B., Randy and Blaine Atwood of Hampden, Burns and Wayne Graham of Goods Corner, N.B.
Linneus — Murray C. Adams, Jr. 22 of Linneus, was graduated Nov. 1 from the United States Border Patrol Academy at Glynco, Ga., and will perform duties as a patrol agent in the Tucson, Arizona border patrol sector.
