Students at the Dawn Barnes Elementary School in Caswell presented a reader’s theater during the recent Literacy Night held at the school.

“Johnny Appleseed” arrived in his usual dress and read a book to the students telling  the history and legend of Johnny Appleseed.
Staff members manned a variety of stations where students could participate in activities including games, music and seed planting. Students also had the opportunity to see an old fashion apple press at work, as apples were pressed  providing fresh apple juice to sample.
Parents of the Caswell students also took part in the busy event. Several door prizes were awarded and each child went home with a free book.
The next Literacy Night at the school is scheduled to be held Feb. 11, 2009.
