PRACTICE, PRACTICE — The members of this year’s Houlton Community Chorus have been rehearsing for their upcoming show called, Friends’ Holiday Celebration on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Houlton High School Auditorium. Sharon Walker, SAD 29’s elementary music teacher is this year’s director and her husband Scott; SAD 70’s music teacher will accompany the group on the piano. Members rehearsing are from left, Earlene Russell, Louise London, Arlene Bean, Karen Major, Nancy Johnson, and Sharon Chase.
The chorus accompanied by Walker’s husband, Scott on the piano will entertain guests with their “Friends’ Holiday Celebration.” This program offers a wide variety of winter and holiday songs from the traditional to more contemporary.
There are 30 members in the chorus this season and some of them have been members since the group originated in the mid 1960s.
Louise London and Earlene Russell both love the camaraderie of the singing group. They say that it is relaxing, it’s a great stress reducer and “there is no expense,” added Arlene Bean.
London added, “We love bringing joy to other people with our music. In the past we have also performed our music in small groups at nursing homes and events in the community.”
The members begin practicing in September and meet once a week for a two-hour practice until the concert date. The group sometimes performs a spring and summer concert as well as their holiday show.
Included in this years’ show will be Houlton High School’s Concert Choir, the Chamber Choir, a flute ensemble and the Border Harmony singing group.
This year’s program will be one that you won’t want to miss. There is no set admission charge, but donations will be accepted.
Join in the spirit of Christmas by attending this local musical and enjoy many talented singers and musicians.
