Jonesport – Lorraine S. Church, 79, formerly of Jonesport, ME, passed away peacefully at 2:08 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Dukes Hospital in Peru, Indiana. She had lived in the Peru area since 2001 when she moved from Fayetteville, NC. She was born in Princeton, ME, June 18, 1929, the daughter of Harry and Althea Scott.
She married Thomas W. Church on January 18, 1947, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1999.
Lorraine graduated from Jonesport High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and food service worker in SAD #42, Mars Hill, ME, for many years. She loved music and was organist for the Congregational Church in Jonesport, ME, up until her husband’s death and her subsequent relocating to Fayetteville, NC. She attended Peoria Church when her health permitted. Lorraine had a deep love for domestic animals and you could always find cats and dogs living with her from time to time.
Surviving is her daughter, Terry L. Celcer and husband Glen of Fayetteville, NC; three sons, Gary L. Church of Peru, IN, Thomas H. Church and his wife Wanda of Grafton, VA, and Colin F. Church with companion Johnna Knowles of Glenburn, ME. Also, surviving are seven grandchildren: Gary Glen Celcer of Key West, FL, Ryan Celcer of Fayetteville, NC, Chad Celcer of Fayetteville, NC, Travis Church of Grafton, VA, Tyler Church of Bellendorf, IA, Tiffany Church of Grafton, VA, and Michael Church of Las Vegas, NV; and several great-grandchildren also survive. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
It was Lorraine’s wishes to be cremated and her remains returned to the state of Maine. There will be no funeral or viewing with arrangements being handled by Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru, IN. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport, ME, in late spring or early summer of 2009. Memorial donations may be made to charities of choice.
