In Saturday’s games against the Dover-Foxcroft Ponies, both the Presque Isle boys and girls varsity teams came out on top.
Russ Mortland stepped up to the free throw line and put one in to start the Wildcat boys off on Saturday night’s game against Dover. Mortland finished the night with another 25 points and six 3-pointers as Presque Isle trampled the Ponies 68-35.

Now 14-1 for the season, the Wildcats just can’t seem to stop winning, taking a Friday night 47-37 home win over Houlton.
Mortland led again against the Shires with 14 points, while Nate Ackerson, pictured at left, put in 10.
The Wildcats head to Caribou tonight in a much anticipated match against the Vikings.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Sarah Porter, who netted 14 total points in the 53-32 victory over the Lady Ponies. Presque Isle came out strong from the start. Though both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats’ 16 point lead left them well ahead of any looming trouble.
Kayla Richards saw court time and put in 13 points behind Porter, along with Chelsea Nickerson’s 10.
From the 3-point line, Porter put away three baskets and Nickerson and Elizabeth Kofstad each had one.
Including Saturday’s game, the Lady Wildcats are now 12-3 for the season, and coach Jeff Hudson is looking for each player to step up their game, especially with the recent loss of senior Kayla Legassie, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.
“Everyone else will have to step up for the rest of the season and in Bangor. I thought they played well today; we had contributions from everyone,” remarked Hudson after Saturday’s game.
The Lady Wildcats played in Caribou last night against their rivals, the Lady Vikings.
