In a race against time, the Panthers and Hornets battled out their Saturday game and at the buzzer, Central Aroostook won 63-60.
The Lady Hornets, now 8-6, fell to the Lady Panthers 56-18 Saturday. Central Aroostook is currently 11-4 for the season. Earlier in the week, the Lady Hornets edged past the Lady Eagles of Limestone Thursday night with a 45-41 win. Crystal Cook and Taylor Baker contributed to Ashland’s win with nine and eight points respectively. And Jessica Jimmo and Suzie Poulin provided offensive and defensive help with eight points each and six steals between the two.
In their home game against the Eagles, the Ashland boys’ varsity team celebrated a 61-50 win. Hornet Jeremy Tarr netted 37 game points Jake Paradis added eight points for Ashland.
In Ashland, the Hornets held off the Cougars in overtime with a final 68-65 win last Wednesday. Tarr’s game-high 39 points and five 3-point goals aided Ashland in the victory as the two teams, tied 58-58, moved into extra minutes. Hornet Carl Nemer contributed 14 points for Ashland.
With senior Morgan Berube back on the court for Washburn, the Lady Beavers jumped to a 46-19 win over the Lady Hornets Monday night. Now 10-4 for the season, the Beavers will be looking to offensive leaders like Rachel Palmer, who netted 22 points last night, in their journey towards Bangor. Rebecca Campbell added an additional 12. For Ashland, Jimmo put in eight points while Poulin only put in two.
In Washburn, the Lady Beavers took a 20-point lead in the fourth to dominate the Greater Houlton Eagles 41-21 on Jan. 20. In the third, the Beavers only allowed the Eagles two points and Campbell’s five steals helped to secure Washburn’s win. Campbell also netted 15 points and Palmer put away 10 for the Beavers.
Washburn took a 58-49 win over Easton Friday night as Alex McIntosh put in 15 points for the Beavers. The teams, tied after the first quarter, remained close until the half. Easton fell behind as Washburn players Jordan McLaughlin, Nick McIntosh and Connor Fitzpatrick brought out their offensive best, shooting consistently and strongly from the 3-point line. For the Bears, Trask netted a game-high 17 points.
The Beavers fell to the Greater Houlton Eagles last Tuesday, Jan. 20 after an intense game of back-and-forth play. The Eagles took the win 66-63 but had to earn it as Beaver N. McIntosh totaled 32 points, a season high for the Washburn senior. Down by seven after the first eight minutes, Washburn recovered from the initial loss to head into the second half leading 31-30, but fell behind by four as the clock wound down. Fitzpatrick added 11 points to Washburn’s score by the end of the night.
