On Wednesday, Feb. 11, students from the Greater Houlton Christian Academy band program volunteered at the Houlton Humane Society.

“I have a huge appreciation for those who give of their time to take care of these animals, and in seeing all of the strays I, now, believe that having your pet spayed or neutered is a great way to help control the pet population,” said Myra Barnes.
The students assisted in helping the staff with cleaning both the inside and outdoor dog kennels; cleaned the cat and kitten rooms; washed dishes and litter boxes; helped with the sick animals; and after all was done, enjoyed playing with the cats and walking the dogs.
GHCA student Tessa Winship enjoys the cats.
“I had a great time with the animals. My respect for the staff who take care of these animals has grown immensely,” said Emily Little. “I can’t help but appreciate them for what they do, especially after having helped them.”
Sara Hemingway added, “I really enjoyed playing with the cats. They were so friendly. These cats will make a great pet for any home. They are loving, affectionate, and full of life. They have so much to offer to any family looking for a pet.”
Jordan Cummings and another student give each cat fresh water in their bowls.
