Barbara Jean (Somerville) Rogers

ImageRogers, Barbara J., 86, March 6, 2009. Image    AUBURN – Barbara Jean (Somerville) Rogers, 7/18/1922 – 3/06/2009, daughter of Marion (Pray) and Albert Alfred Somerville, died at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, ME.
    Barbara attended schools in the Houlton area, including Ricker Classical Institute. She received her R.N. from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation from nursing school she enlisted in the United States Army serving in the European theater in World War II. She attended Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH after the war where she received her B.S. in nursing. She worked in the Houlton school systems as the School Nurse from 1965 – 1986, as well as at Houlton Regional Hospital. She was an avid reader and knitter, favoring intricate Fisherman Knit patterns. She was pleased to have seen the Red Sox win two World Series.
    She is survived by two daughters, Susan, her husband Michael Blake of Glenburn, Kathryn Rogers of Auburn; one grandson, Steven Blake of Bangor; sister-in-law, Alta Somerville of Houlton; and several nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Cedric Somerville of Houlton and Cyril Somerville of Saco.
    No services are planned, at Barbara’s request.  Donations in her memory may be made to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave, Lewiston, ME 04243-0819.
