SMYRNA – Shirley Allen, 100, died April 2, 2009, in Houlton. She was born July 29, 1908 in Sherman, the daughter of Lesley and Isabella (Tozier) Daggett.
She was a graduate of Sherman High School; was a 50 year member of the Molunkus O.E.S. #95; a past Matron Loyal O.E.S. in the Island Falls Chapter, a past Grand Representative of Maryland in Maine, was a telephone operator in Smyrna Mills for 20 years and a member of the Smyrna Mills Methodist Church.
She is survived by three great -nieces, Virginia and her husband Daniel Sobol of Jefferson, MA, Gail Penrose of Bangor, Julie Caron of Brookfield, MA; three great-nephews, Brian Foss of Bangor, Peter Tarbell of Sebastian, FL and Richard Foss of St. Albans, VT; several great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Allen.
Friends called 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton with Molunkus Chapter O.E.S. #95 services held at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Marilyn Rhodin as officiate. Spring interment will be in the Smyrna Mills Cemetery.
