Presque Isle – Louise C. Clapp, 86, died Friday night April 3, 2009, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. Louise was born in Presque Isle, Maine on May 14, 1922, the daughter of Herbert and Helen Greenlaw Cambridge.
A graduate of Presque Isle High School Class of 1940, Mrs. Clapp received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono. After graduating, she taught in secondary schools in Hillsboro, New Hampshire and Foxboro, Massachusetts. From 1945 to 1960, Mrs. Clapp lived in Stamford, Connecticut where she was active in the American Association of University Women. In 1961, she moved to the Philadelphia, PA area. From 1972 to 1982, she was employed by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross in Philadelphia. Mrs. Clapp later worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency out of Region III for 20 years. After retiring, she moved to Topsham, Maine then Presque Isle. During the Vietnam War, Mrs. Clapp was a volunteer at the Valley Forge General Army Hospital. She was a past member of the Philadelphia Alumnae of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, the American Association of University Women, and the Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, Pennsylvania.
Louise was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Clarence E. Cambridge. She is survived by a nephew, David H. Cambridge and his wife Carla and grandniece Chelsae Cambridge of Chapman, Maine; a niece, Susan C. Dick and her husband Matthew; grandniece Whitney Dick and grandnephews Madison Dick and Marshall Dick of Mapleton, Maine; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Cambridge of Presque Isle, Maine.
