Youth in the area are lacking the key ingredient to participating in the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby this June — cars.
Right now, Marie Carmichael has several youth who are interested in getting involved in the race, but they do not have a car to use. So, Carmichael is asking anyone who may have a car in storage to dig it out and give her a call.
The driver would be responsible for making all of the updates, unless the owner/sponsor of the car would like to help with that matter, so a youngster could feel the “Thrill of the Hill,” as maybe one of their sons/daughters or neice/nephew have over the years.
There are few modifications to be made to the cars. The biggest factor would be the safety of the car. Derby technicians can help assess that and help with getting the car into tip-top shape.
Don’t hestitate to give this tradition of fun and excitment to another child.
Carmichael can be reached at the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department at 532-1310.
The derby will be held Saturday, June 20 in Community Park on Derby Hill.
