HRH volunteers honored

    In recognition of the many hours and contributions devoted throughout the year by hospital volunteers, the volunteer department of Houlton Regional recently held its 24th annual volunteer luncheon.
    Over the past year volunteers at the hospital have donated 12,000 hours. Since the department began in 1984, volunteers have donated 262,000 hours of service at the hospital. There are currently 100 volunteers providing services at Houlton Regional Hospital with over 30 different departments utilizing their services.
    Some of the jobs done by volunteers including spending quality time with residents, reading to patients as well as entertaining them, woodworking, helping to put supplies away, assisting in laundry or ringing up a sale in our gift shop, as well as many clerical duties, special projects and greeting our patients and visitors at the information desk.
    Hospital volunteers play a very important role in the hospital team.
    “It’s so nice to have people who want to give of themselves and we greatly appreciate them,” said Patrice Lunnie, volunteer manager.
    Among the volunteers and honored for their hours of service were, Ida Bradley RSVP, 12,000 hours; Jane Hughes, 9,700 hours; Elizabeth Childers RSVP, 9,300 hours; Al McCluskey, 9,000 hours; Gary Tidd 7,100 hours; Joan Logan, 5,000 hours; Mildred Reece, RSVP 4,500 hours; Hilda Hughes RSVP, 3,600 hours; Glynn Porter, 3,500 hours; Lori Stiles, 2,800 hours; Arline Dickison, RSVP 2,400 hours; Lavona Varney, 2200 hours; Arlene Bean RSVP, 1,900 hours; Larry Hutchinson and Virginia McLaughlin 1,600 hours; Frances Bishop and Lewis Webber 1,500 hours and Fran Dunn, 1,300 hours.
