ACCA plants the seeds of a better future for the white tail deer in Aroostook County

Members of the Aroostook County Conservation Association spent a portion of the morning on  April 11 walking through the muddy forestry roads of Irving Woodlands planting food for the white tail deer.    Due to harsh winters and predation, the white tail population has dwindled considerably over the past few years. Using funds donated by ACCA members and concerned outdoors people, the association was able to purchase the seed and equipment needed to plant vegetation like clover for the white tail to eat.
Using about 300 pounds of seed over three acres, the thoroughly planted vegetation is expected to sprout in about three weeks.
Not only will the newly planted browse positively impact the white tail population, the vegetation will help combat soil erosion on the roads.
The ACCA currently has about 200 members.
