PRESQUE ISLE – Megan McKnight received the royal treatment March 21, complete with crown and sash, following her win at the 2009 Junior Miss Presque Isle Pageant, held March 21 at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium.

This year’s event raised approximately $7,000 for the United Way of Aroostook. Junior and Little Miss contestants took to the stage for the opening number, performing a dance routine to Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” joined by Junior Miss Presque Isle 2008 Hanna Patterson and Little Miss Presque Isle 2008 Madison Bearden.
Junior Miss contestants were judged on the interview portion of the annual event prior to the evening’s competition. The young ladies were then scored during the pageant in three categories: sportswear, talent and evening gown.
Melanie Biggs sang “I’ll Stand By You” for her talent presentation. She is the daughter of John and Tammy Rines.
Megan Byers performed a dance routine to “I’m A Believer,” for which she won the talent award. She is the daughter of Jodi Skidgel and Barton Byers. She was also named first runner-up for the title.
McKnight is the daughter of Amanda Sylvia and Mac McKnight. She danced to the song “Under the Sea” from Disney’s “Little Mermaid.”
Madison Shaw, daughter of Robert and Paula Shaw, played a musical selection on the piano for her talent.
Brittany Page also chose a dance number, performing to the tune “Allstar.” She is the daughter of Donald and Caroline Page.
Katelyn McPherson sang “For Good” during the competition. She is the daughter of Philip and Margaret McPherson. McPherson won the title of Miss Congeniality, an honor voted on by fellow contestants. She was also named Miss Hospitality for high ticket sales/sponsorships.
McKnight will now go on to represent the Star City at various activities in the coming year, including representing Presque Isle as Junior Miss later this summer during the Junior Miss Potato Blossom Pageant, scheduled later this summer in Fort Fairfield.
