Hermon & Houlton – Wayne A. Kenney, 71, passed away April 17, 2009, in Bangor, Maine, after a long illness. He was the son of Weston Luther and Beryl Copp Kenney. Wayne was born in Rochester, NH, and spent his early years in Sanbornville, NH, under the watchful eyes of his loving parents and grandparents.
    His high school years were spent in Kittery Point, ME, graduating from Traip Academy in 1956. Wayne served proudly in the United States Air Force as a communications specialist before returning to his New England roots and a career with the Federal Aviation Administration. His duties as an air traffic controller carried him throughout the northeast, with lengthy assignments in Houlton and Bangor. Wayne retired from the FAA in 1998 after 42 years of exemplary service – twice recognized for assisting lost aircraft to safe landings. When his children were young, he volunteered as a coach and scouting leader offering unwavering support and guidance to those he mentored. He enjoyed spending time on Drews Lake and Lake Wentworth,  watching his grandchildren play and all of the area wildlife. Wayne loved to sail and was especially fond of his boat, the Checkbook 2, and taking family and guests for leisurely afternoon rides.
    Wayne is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Pamela P. Kenney of Bangor; brother, Roger W. Kenney of Kittery Point; daughter, Cheryl Shaw of Biddeford; son, Michael A. Kenney, his wife Terry Hutchinson, and their children Jenna and Christopher of Houlton; daughter, Melissa L. Kenney of Fairbanks, Alaska; son, Weston A. Kenney and his wife Kelly Kenney of Bangor; granddaughter, Danielle Shaw of Portland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, at the Dunn Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Robertson as officiate.
