Mapleton Lions Club dinner, auction to be held Saturday

The Mapleton Lions Club has announced the highlight of its auction this Saturday night – May 2 – is the raffle drawing for a Wildfire Motor Scooter. Tickets have been on sale since February and will continue to be sold until shortly before the drawing at 8 p.m. Saturday during the auction. The scooter gets up to 100 miles per gallon of gas. It could be even more with cautious riding. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member.    The 47th annual auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Funds raised by the raffle and auction will go to fund Mapleton Lions Club charities such as Project Graduation, Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, the club’s scholarship program and the Mapleton Recreation Program. Lions Ron Leonard and Matt Gregg will auction 300 items and services, so come and get a good deal while helping your neighbors through the Mapleton Lions Club.
The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with a public ham and bean dinner. Both the dinner and auction will be held at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Come to one or both of these events. We look forward to seeing everyone at these events.

Mapleton Daze Parade
Any and all who are interested in participating in the annual Mapleton Daze parade are asked to pre-register by contacting Grenda Stephenson at 764-0452. The Mapleton Daze Committee will once again be awarding trophies in several categories. Thank you for registering prior to the Saturday morning parade!

Maine Agri Women
Maine Agri Women held their annual meeting at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Brenda Jepson, an instructor from Viking Video Productions at the Caribou Tech Center, relayed to the members what went into producing the video, “Tater Raisin’ Folks in Aroostook.” The video was entertaining, as well as informative to the members. Mrs. Jepson also showed the members a cookbook she recently received from former German POWs who were in Aroostook during WWII. The German men viewed the video in Germany and asked for some recipes from the Maine Agri Women cooking contest held each year in conjunction with the Potato Blossom Festival. Members showed interest in getting some of the recipes translated from German and metric measurements so they could be taste tested here in Aroostook. Members were able to assemble a card as a favor. New officers for the upcoming year were elected as follows: Judy Kenney and Mary Anne Buck, co-presidents; Sandra Durepo, vice president; Roberta LaBrie, recording secretary; Diane Hemphill, treasurer; and Martha Lavertu, corresponding secretary. Plans were discussed for selection of two scholarship recipients, upcoming Madawaska Trade Show, Washington, D.C. AAW Fly In, and AAW annual meeting in Salem, Ore.

Upcoming Holidays

The teachers will be honored in various ways during the week, including a special breakfast one morning and a lunch on Friday. Let’s also remember to thank our school nurses for all their hard work and dedication! National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 6.Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society will be having its annual Mother’s Day pie sale at K-Mart May 9. The public is encouraged to visit the booth and purchase a pie for your mother or a special treat for yourself! Candy bars are still on sale and can be purchased at Clukey’s Auto, Chandler Farms and the Mapleton Town Office.
The Society has voted to offer a couple’s lifetime membership for $150. If two people from the same family would like to join, this option would save $50, rather than purchasing one lifetime membership for $100.
The Grange Hall is available for rent May 1-Nov. 1. Please contact any member if you are interested in renting the hall for your event. The Society meets one night a month from February through November and welcomes new members.
