Marketing Southern Aroostook
By Jon McLaughlin
Note: Everyone knows that SADC is an organization whose mission is to market the region to businesses from away that are looking to expand their operations and/or to relocate. An organization is made up of people. Many don’t know, however, the players that make up SADC. In a series of articles, we will be featuring the board members that make up SADC and are crucial to its success.
At a recent board meeting, SADC elected its third president and chairman of the board – Mr. Peter Chase.
Mr. Chase was born in China, Maine and attended Cony High School in Augusta. After graduating, he furthered his education at the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in 1979 with a B.S. degree in forest engineering.
Upon his graduation he was employed with the Cianbro Corporation as Project Engineer, working on several projects throughout the state of Maine, including the construction of the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation’s Oriented Strand Board plant in New Limerick in the early 1980s.
After completion of the LP construction project, LP hired him as plant superintendent for the new facility, where he eventually progressed to operations manager for the Northeast. During this employment he was credited for the invention of Top Notch, a self-draining, OSB sub-flooring product.
In 1989, with his wife, he founded Buildings Etcetera, Inc., a general contracting firm specializing in the construction of commercial and industrial facilities. Some of the many local projects constructed by his company include the Houlton Higher Education Center, York’s of Houlton’s recent expansion, the John Millar Civic Center, Tim Hortons, I-95 Food Trend, Furniture and Floors North, Machias Savings Bank, Katahdin Trust Administrative Offices and many education facility renovations.
Residing in New Limerick with his wife, Kathy Gallop Chase, he is the proud father of three sons; Jesse, a junior at UMO, Zach, a freshman at UMO and Nick, a sophomore at Houlton High School.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, water skiing, jogging as well as coaching and watching organized sports, especially hockey.
When asked why he became a director of SADC he stated, “I feel very strongly that investing time and money in SADC is one of the most important contributions we can do for our local area. By building a strong economic base we can keep our local businesses prosperous and, most importantly, provide an opportunity for our youth in the southern Aroostook area if they choose to reside here.”
SADC continues to push forward with its mission to attract and guide new business to Southern Aroostook for the betterment of our area. SADC is a private/public-funded partnership and if interested in contributing to our efforts or attending one of our board meetings as a guest please contact the office at (207) 521-0157.
