Castle Hill Grange to sell pies for Mother’s Day

If you happen to be at the Aroostook Centre Mall Saturday, May 9, plan to stop by Kmart. The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society will be selling pies as part of their annual Mother’s Day fund-raiser. The public is encouraged to stop by the booth and support the Society.

Boy Scout Bottle Drive
Boy Scout Troop 170 will be having a bottle drive Saturday, May 9 starting at 8 a.m. They will be going from house to house collecting bottles and cans to help raise money to attend summer camp. If you would like to donate and won’t be home, you can leave them on your doorstep. Please call Scoutmaster Peter Starr at 764-8189 to schedule a pickup if they miss you and you wish to donate. The troop thanks you for your continued support.
The troop also invites any young men between the ages of 11 and 18 who might enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, and many outdoor activities to come visit them at the Mapleton Lions Club Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. to see what it’s all about. If you have any questions, please contact Peter Starr.

Senior Citizen News
The Mapleton/ Chapman/Castle Hill Senior Citizens met at Maple Tree Estates with 24 members and one guest attending. Wayne Kennard offered the blessing for the food and a delicious lunch was enjoyed by the group. President Shirley Coty presided over the business meeting and welcomed Ruth LaCombe who is back after spending the winter with her family in southern Maine. The Secretary and Treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
Coty will make the birthday cake for May. LaCombe and Coty will serve as the kitchen committee for May. Madeline Wilcox read “Courting Days” for newlyweds, Laurie and Chick McPherson. Coty also entertained the group with several humorous readings. The club plans to go out for lunch May 11.
All seniors in the area are invited to join the club. They meet every Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Tree Estates on the Hughes Road.
Mapleton Daze Parade

Little Known Holidays
I overlooked a “little known holiday” last week. Most of you probably didn’t pick up on it because you likely didn’t know it existed! May 3 marked National Babysitters Day. It’s not too late to show your love and appreciation for those that take care of your children. This could be your daycare provider that has your child under their watchful eye everyday, or the occasional young sitter that comes to your home. Regardless, they all should be thanked with much gratitude!
Of course, we don’t want to forget the well-known holiday this Sunday, Mother’s Day. Find a special way to honor your mother, and not just this week, but every week! My family would like to wish our mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers and aunts a very special “Happy Mother’s Day!”
Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
Candy bars are still on sale and can be purchased at Clukey’s Auto, Chandler Farms and the Mapleton Town Office.
The Society has voted to offer a couple’s lifetime membership for $150. If two people from the same family would like to join, this option would save $50, rather than purchasing one lifetime membership for $100.
The Grange Hall is available for rent May 1-Nov. 1. Please contact any member if you are interested in renting the hall for your event. The Society meets one night a month from February through November and welcomes new members. Please consider helping the Society preserve a piece of local history.
Mapleton United Methodist Church Luncheon
