Roberta Lewin (Woodcock) Glanville, 71, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, after a brief illness. She was born December 19, 1937, the daughter of Roland “Earl” Lewin and Wilma Thompkins (Lewin) Goodall.
Roberta was a consummate craftswoman extremely gifted in quilting. She also loved to do fine needlework, and for a time, ran a ceramics business with her twin sister Rowena when they lived in North Carolina. She loved to read and had a razor sharp intellect. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. She enjoyed her grandchildren and though she lived some distance away, was present when they each graduated high school. She also enjoyed her new great grandson Quentin. She dearly loved her cats and frequently rescued stray animals. She was an avid gardener with a special love for flowers. Another pastime was family genealogy, with her last few years being spent on gathering family photos. Roberta attended Presque Isle schools and was a graduate of the class of 1955. She was employed for many years at Converse Rubber, and just prior to her retirement in 2000, had been employed for Burrell’s Press Clipping Service.
Roberta is survived by her son, Russell Woodcock and his wife Karen, of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Megan Woodcock of Augusta and Alyssa Woodcock of Worchester, MA; great-grandchild, Quentin James of Augusta; sisters, Katherine “Ellen” Lewin Marshall, and her husband Bill, of Fairhope, AL and twin sister, Rowena Lewin Ramey of Presque Isle; brothers, Nathan Lewin of East Millinocket and Curtis Lewin and his wife Sally, of Presque Isle; a very special niece, Sherry Sutherland of Presque Isle; many other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Kaye Lewin Miranda in 2008 and Rita Lewin in 2001; and nephew Kurt Lewin in 1983.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Fairmont Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations, in her memory, be sent to Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
