FORT FAIRFIELD – Sandra L. Hunt, 64, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at her Fort Fairfield residence. She was born May 8, 1945 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Kempton A. and Leah (Loiseau) Boyd. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1963 and was a 1968 graduate of the Aroostook State Teachers College, Presque Isle. Sandra was employed by S.A.D. Number 20, Fort Fairfield from 1968 to 1996 at both the Fort Fairfield Junior High and Fort Fairfield High School. Sandra served on the Fort Fairfield Public Library Board of Directors, was Past Regional Director of the Right to Read Program, was a member of the Maine Teachers Association and the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association. She was active in the Maine Potato Blossom Festival, having served as Past Pageant Director, participated in the Queen’s Tea, served as the Master of Ceremonies at the Potato Blossom Pageant and was a member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church.
Sandra was predeceased by her father, Kempton A. Boyd. She is survived by her mother, Leah Boyd; one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Jill Boyd, all of Presque Isle; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jay Jones of The Woodlands, Texas; one nephew, Derek Boyd of DeWitt, Michigan. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many friends who were very important to her, including Jane Hunt and Nada McKenney, both of Fort Fairfield.
Friends called, Friday, May 29, 2009 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Celebration of Sandra’s life was conducted Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Parish Church, 4 Church, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Interment took place after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the United Parish Church after the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Sandra to the Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, 04742 or the charity or organization of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
