The Presque Isle Lady Wildcats moved onto their tenth win after a Thursday afternoon shutout over Fort Kent. Krista Coffin pitched a no-hitter to the Lady Warriors to lead the ‘Cats to a 13-0 victory with an 11 run second inning highlight.
Additionally, Coffin singled twice and had two RBIs and Kayla Richards and Amy Gervais singled with RBIs.
The Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Vikings last night under the lights for their final regular season game. “The game against Caribou is always a big game. Being the last game of the regular season, senior night and home under the lights would be enough in and of itself, but it will also have playoff impact as well. Caribou has a good team and a very good coach, so it should be a great game,” said Wildcat coach Alan Curtis. Results will be in next week’s Star-Herald.
The Wildcats move onto win seven after defeating Fort Kent 7-3. Brennen Shaw took the mound for Presque Isle, giving up two hits and throwing 11 strikeouts as well as doubling twice and singling as the Wildcats took a first inning two-run lead, while Ethan Braley had a single and an RBI. In their last regular season game, Presque Isle baseball welcomed the Caribou baseball team to the Star City last night. Having lost to the Vikings 12-4 in Caribou earlier in the season, coach Tim Olore said the Wildcat team would be focusing on cutting down unearned runs and continue getting clutch hits.
“From where we started the season to where we are now, we’ve definitely improved,” Olore said. “When we really limit unearned runs, we can play with any team. Caribou is a very good team, senior loaded and they score lots of runs. If we can limit their runs with good defense and solid pitching, we have a chance.” But, offensively, the Wildcats will need to take advantage of their time spent on base.
“When you look at our stats,” explained Olore, “we’re leaving too many guys on base.” He’ll be relying on clutch hitting from Shaw, Braley, Matt Chasse, Steven Ford, Zac Campbell, Eric Morris, Isaac LaJoie and Amos Dean. Shaw, who was hit in his pitching elbow in a wild pitch during the ‘Cats recent doubleheader against MDI, has recovered in time for the Viking game and playoffs. Results of last night’s game will be posted in next week’s Star-Herald.

REACHING FOR THE OUT OF REACH, Wildcat Ethan Braley dives just short of first base, colliding with his Fort Kent opponent and consequently getting picked off by the pitcher for the inning’s second out. Presque Isle went on to beat Fort Kent 7-3 on May 28.
