HRPC meeting Aug. 2

    The Houlton Rifle and Pistol Club will meet on Aug. 2 at the range located adjacent to the Houlton International Airport. The monthly meeting will start at 7 p.m. with recreational shooting to follow. All members are encouraged to attend.

Soccer camp slated

    Cougar Soccer Camp is slated for Aug. 3-6 at the Bob Dyer Soccer Field in Stacyville.
    The camp is for those students entering grades 4-6 and grades 7-9. The younger group will meet from 8:30-10:30 a.m., followed by the older players from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    The camp will teach fundamental skills, along with games and lots of fun. Cost is $25 for one student or $40 per family of two or more in the same family. Coaches will be Phil Faulkner and Matt Lindsay.

Cougar soccer practice begin Aug. 11

    Varsity soccer practice for high school boys and girls will begin Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the Katahdin High School field at 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Players are reminded to have their physicals completed beforehand and are required to have paperwork with them during practice.

Island Falls canoe/kayak race Saturday at Birch Point

    ISLAND FALLS — The annual Island Falls Summerfest Recreational Canoe and Kayak Race, sponsored by the Island Falls Lakes Association, will take place Saturday, July 25 with registration from 9-9:45 a.m. Racing, by category, begins at 10 a.m.
    The event is launched from Birch Point on Pleasant Lake, located on the Pond Road in Island Falls. Prizes will be awarded and there is a $10 entry fee required of every racer. Categories include junior, age 14 and under; student age 15-17 and adult age 18 and over. Canoe divisions include male, female, mixed and Century. Kayak classes include male, female, tandem and by boat length.
    The race proceeds will benefit the Dollars for Scholars program.
