MIA CARNEY, daughter of Michelle and Ryan Carney, Sr. of Ashland, was recently crowned the 2009 Little Miss Ashland. During the talent portion of the competition, she tap-danced to “We Both Reach for the Gun” from the musical “Chicago.” Here, Carney is all smiles with her escort, Lukas Deabay, son of Shannon and Joel Deabay of Oxbow.

Ashland recently held its 2009 Little Miss Ashland pageant at the Ashland Central School. The pageant featured an array of very talented and sweet, young ladies. The opening number in the show was a dance routine to “Mister Sun” by Fisher Price Little People. Each of the girls were very sweet in their performance, and it was obvious they worked really hard and spent a lot of time practicing.
The talent portion of the pageant highlighted just how talented these young ladies are! Morgan Stevens performed first, singing the song “Playmate,” while Abby Walker wowed the crowd with her dance routine to Fats Domino’s, “I’m Falling in Love Again.” Mia Carney was quite charming during her tap dance to “We Both Reach for the Gun” from the musical “Chicago.” Haleigh Holmes showed her American spirit while singing a patriotic melody. Taylor Morton, accompanied by her father, David Morton, did a great job singing the spiritual, “I Can Only Imagine” by Barton Millard, and last but not least, Kylee Bolstridge closed the talent portion singing “Fly Me to the Moon” by Michael Bublé.
The girls then changed the mood donning their formal wear. What beautiful young ladies, each in such pretty dresses! The contestants were escorted by some of our most handsome, young men! The contestants, and their escorts were: Morgan Stevens and Creed Chasse, Abby Walker and Eli Walker, Mia Carney and Lukas Deabay, Haleigh Holmes and Brady Holmes, Taylor Morton and Michael Burby, and Kylee Bolstridge and Graham Berry.
The reigning 2008 Little Miss Ashland Meagan Cote danced an upbeat routine for the crowd earning her applause. The contestants then came to the stage for the interview portion of the night with the evening’s emcee Jill Ireland. Each girl sat one on one with Ireland on the stage and answered the questions given to them with poise and confidence. The judges – Danielle Cropley, Jenny Luukko and Pam McEachern – then convened to decide the new Little Miss. Though it was a hard choice, in the end, Taylor Morton was chosen first runner-up and Mia Carney was chosen as the 2009 Little Miss Ashland. Congratulations to all the smart and beautiful, young ladies. You did a great job!

Local Kids, Future Riders

Some local kids traveled to Millinocket with their families recently to attend the 2009 Maine State H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Rally held at the New England Outdoor Center from July 16-18. Everyone enjoyed looking at and admiring all the Harley Davidsons that attended the rally, as well as visiting the vendors. The kids also got to see the Pelletier Logging Crew from the television series “American Loggers” in person. Fun was had by all!
