Who will this year’s royalty be?

    The “Just For Kids” summer playground children sponsored by the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will be holding their annual Peanut Parade and Carnival.
    The parade is set for Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. through downtown Houlton, with the carnival from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 at the Pleasant Street tennis courts adjacent to the Gentle Memorial Building. In case of rain, the carnival will be held downstairs in the Houlton Recreational Center.
    The highlight of the evening is the 2009 Peanut King and Queen coronation at 8 p.m. in the Houlton Recreational Center gymnasium. Last year’s royalty, Brandon Dunn and Amelia Hanning will do the honors of crowning this year’s king and queen.
25 YEARS AGO – It was 25 years ago that Daniel Rhoda and Spring Shea were crowned Peanut Carnival King and Queen. Down through the years there have been numerous children having the honor of being selected to one of the town’s longstanding traditions.
