Marian Rose Tingley entered this life as a ray of sunshine on January 5, 1930. With her family surrounding her, she returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father August 4, 2009.
When she was born she brought great joy to her parents George and Bertha Staples. As with all of the siblings, she was born on the family farm in Chapman, Maine.
Being raised on a large farm with nine siblings, they never lacked for work or play.
During the school year, Marian worked in a small diner in Mapleton, and that is where she caught the eye of her future husband, Robert Tingley. He waited an entire year until she turned 16. On her birthday, he returned to the diner and asked her to the movies and she said YES! From that day on they were definitely a couple.
They wed on November 7, 1949 in Houlton, Maine. They brought into this world three children; Jannelle, Kevin and Ronald. Marian always worked hard especially as a wife, mother, homemaker, daughter, sister and friend. She worked with such great joy that it was not difficult to talk us children into helping her.
She always seemed to know when someone needed her. It was a wonderful gift. Her life was one of service to many. Mom, decided to go to nursing school and graduated first in her class.
On March 8, 1963 she lost her beloved husband after a long illness leaving her to raise three small children. Making a difficult decision, she left Maine with her little family and moved to Riverside, California where she worked as a nurse for 22 years. Long hard unselfish hours were spent in order to provide for her children.
She retired from nursing and entered a new career that of law. She was the Executive Legal Secretary for 14 years, with the law firm of Ken McKenna, in Reno, Nevada. Retiring again, she traveled and spent precious time with her family, when Grammy came for a visit the kids quickly set up a puzzle and we started a marathon game of Skip-Bo.
Marian was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Sparks First Ward. She served in many different callings, her favorite being Relief Society President.
