Lillian Goldena (Boyd) (Reid) Burke, 90, passed away September 26, 2009, at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, NB after a brief illness. She was born February 5, 1919, the eldest daughter of John E. and Katie E. (Drost) Boyd, in Mars Hill, Maine.
Lillian was a 1939 graduate of Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill, ME. She married Leo Reid that year and moved to Upper Knoxford to be a farmer’s wife where she resided until his death in 1975. She was remarried in 1977 to Sheldon Burke and moved to Royalton until his death in 1996. She then moved to an apartment complex in Centreville where she enjoyed her many friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Knoxford Praying Band Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She has been a resident of Birch Haven Special Care Home since January 2009.
Her hobbies consisted of cooking, especially her wonderful donuts and brown bread which delighted her entire family. She also did several quilts for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her only daughter, Katie Buck and her husband Wes, Mapleton, ME; step-sons, Richard (Donna) Burke, St. George, NB, Raymond (Karen) Burke, Centreville, NB, Robert (Debbie) Burke, Halifax, NS, step-daughter, Kelley (Stephen) Farley, Maynard, MA; grandchildren, Marla Longley, Michael W. Buck, Mary (Barrett) Potter; step-grandchildren, Justin and Mitchell Burke, Gregory (Panda) Burke, Jason (Natalie) Burke, Sarah and Jacob Farley; great-grandchildren, Michelle and Mitchell Longley, Lindsay and Michael S. Buck, Rachel and Isaac Potter, Carter Burke; two great-great-granddaughters, Jenika and Katelyn Buck; sister, Ilean (Donald) Burtchell; brothers, Ronald (Gertrude) Boyd, Norris (Linda) Boyd, Wallace (Ella) Boyd; sisters-in-law, Sydna Reid and Vera Reid.
She was predeceased by her parents; an infant brother, Arnold; sisters, Eva Bierce and Olga Beattie; her husbands, Leo J. Reid and Sheldon Burke and a step-daughter-in-law, Cora Burke.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. (American,) 2 p.m. (Canadian) at the Knoxford Praying Band Church on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Calling hours were for two hours prior to the service.
