OLD TOWN – The Caribou boys remained unbeaten on the season, and coach Roy Alden praised his top four runners for their performance in Saturday’s Old Town Sectional Invitational cross country meet. “Christian (Sleeper), Tim (Freme), Finn (Bondeson) and D.J. (Flynn) all looked the strongest they have all year,” Alden said of the quartet, which claimed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions in the meet and had a pack time of 22 seconds.
Sleeper came in at 17:13, while Freme (17:18), Bondeson (17:29) and Flynn (17:35) followed. The top two runners were John Bapst’s Gabe Stewart (16:46) and Mattanawcook’s Matt Guiod (17:08).
Also for Caribou, Jake Michaud was 16th in 18:50 and Robbie Kiehn one slot back in 19:10.
“We were more aggressive on the course,” Alden said. “The team continues to perform very well.”
Alden said the first week of harvest recess was a success. Team members have been able to juggle their work schedule and practice schedule so far. Alden said he was also pleased with the effort of the JV team, which came in first and placed four runners in the top 10.
Coach Tom Beckum’s Caribou girls ran to a third-place finish at Old Town, led by Dayna Michaud, who was fifth out of 45 competitors with a time of 20:51. Mary Jo Sheehan was 16th and Katie Plourde 17th for the Vikings.
John Bapst was the team winner with 33 points, with Presque Isle next with 47. Caribou finished ahead of Old Town and Orono.
