Ricker Rumblings
by Lois Downing
I’m here again and the day is bright and cheerful. The foliage has had its peak, so the experts said. I believe it but it is still very beautiful today.
Peggy Robinson, daughter of Arlene Friel, is in Indiana with some friends visiting. She will be gone several weeks.
Paul Armstrong and Carolyn Carmichael are looking for a hall or place where they can entertain and provide music. If you know of a suitable gathering place, give one of them a call. I’m sure they will appreciate it.
Charlene and Brian Henderson, our liasions, are in Florida vacationing. They will return soon. We miss them.
Elizabeth Cone is a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital, at the time of this writing. Elizabeth used to be a worker here at Ricker Plaza. Get better, Liz.
One of my classmates died, Maxine Thomas Cox of Washburn. Maxine was a great singer, even in high school. She entertained us at proms and other social functions. Our sympathy is extended to her family.
Donna Izzo is a daily visitor of her mother, Opal Crane.
This is National Friendship Week. Have you thought about visiting a sick friend, just call first, keep it to 10 minutes and socialize. I’m sure your loved one will thank you for it.
Thank you again for all the tenants who have left needed bags at my door. It’s a big help to those in need.
Also thanks to the ones who have left free vegetables too.
Donna Burns is expecting cousins from Connecticut. Donna had an outing with her sister-in-law on Wednesday.
Have you decorated for Halloween? So many here have and it’s delightful to see the different decorations on the doors, and the community room looks so great too with fall flowers. Take a ride around town and you will see the tombs, ghosts, lights, signs and other webs. Boo-o-o-!
The thought for the day is taken from John 14:20-4: “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself that where I am there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know and the way ye know.”
Have a wonderful week.
TOPS ME No. 0233 of HOULTON
by Lois Downing
Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 0233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, Oct. 8 meeting. Twenty-one ladies were in attendance and weighed; five of these were KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).
Loser of the week was Janice Shaw and runner-up was Denise Kinney. Kay Grass acted as leader in the absence of Joyce Estey.
Lois Downing drew the lucky number for the skinny dish and Denise Kinney was the winner.
Janette Nelson gave a financial report and other reports such as weight recorder’s report and Joanne Scott and Downing gave secretary’s minutes respectively.
Betty Ivey was given a gift as winner of the true and false program Lois Downing gave the previous week. She had the least of the wrong answers. Kay’s program was on fitting into your jeans. Some of the foods to eat to do this to lose weight are: soy, soup, kiwi, nuts, low fat dairy, sesame seeds, dark chocolate, oatmeal, fish, whole grains, green tea, grapes and apples. Some of the ladies added their concerns and tips.
Kay prefaced her program with a true story happening at her house and we all laughed at her joke about a rooster and a watch ticking. Tell us again, Kay.
Barbara Grant led us in 10 minutes of exercises.
The next program will be Oct. 16 at the same location. If you wish more information about our TOPS chapter, you may call Charlotte Marley at 757-8384 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653. Weigh-in time is 8-8:45 a.m. every Friday. The meeting begins at 9 o’clock and usually ends an hour later. Come and enjoy our chapter. You’ll be glad you did.
Happy Losers

We had 14 ladies weigh-in and 11 attended our class. Jeanne Watson was the person who lost the most weight for the week; Jackie Pratt and Annie Jane Smith were runners-up. Great job ladies.
The Harvest Moon team is still winning in our contest, but the Autumn Leaves team is closing in. Our secretary and treasurer gave reports for the week. We had no meeting because of furnace problems.
Please feel welcome to our group every Wednesday. Weigh-ins are 7:30-8:45 a.m. and meeting starts at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more information.
