CLASSIC CAR HELPS LAND THE GIRL — Steve Guiggey of Sherman’s first car was a 1967 Black Pontiac LeMans/GTO, left. He purchased it in 1974, when he was 15-year-old junior at Katahdin High School. It had been run as a race car. The motor was gone and it was parked out in a field. ”I was taking the SAVE automotive course in Houlton, so I took the car to class and rebuilt the motor. I loved everything about that car. Like a fool, I sold it in 1980. I’m still trying to find it to buy it back. The girl on the hood was my girlfriend (Lorraine DeRespino). This month, we’ll be married for 30 years!” he said. The right photo is of Steve’s current project. It is a 1977 Corvette, 350, 4 speed, matching numbers and all original. “I bought it three years ago. It had caught on fire and needed a lot of body work. I had it painted at Mitchell’s Auto Body in Sherman. It’s not a GTO but it’s pretty nice,” he said.
