Wendel, Charles F., 67, November 4, 2009.  Arrangements by John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Annapolis, Maryland.  Interment was held in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, Delaware.
    Annapolis, MD and previously of Houlton, ME – Charles “Chuck” Franklin Wendel, 67, died November 4, 2009, at his residence in Annapolis of heart failure. He was born January 4, 1942, in Medina, NY, to Theresa J. Wendel of Penfield, NY and the late George W. Wendel.
    He earned his BA in 1969 from Canisius College; MA in 1972 from Niagara University; MS in 1973 from Duquesne University; PhD from University of Pittsburgh. His employment has included: Director of Counseling, Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Pittsburgh; Director of Counseling at Avon Grove High School in Avon Grove, PA, Greenville/Union 60 in Greenville, ME and Southern Aroostook Community Schools in Island Falls, ME. He was a Board Member on the Maine Audobon Society; he published a book of poetry; conducted bird habitat research assessments; was past president of the Pennsylvania State Counseling Association. He was licensed to counsel in Maine, Maryland and Pennsylvania; was a university lecturer in Maine, New York and Pennsylvania. He enjoyed birding; participated in Christmas Bird Counts for 25+ years; started a quilt guild in Greenville, ME.
    His family consists of: wife,  Sarah Anne Wendel, whom he married 5/19/1988; his first wife, Patricia Wendel, they were married 10/8/1978 and divorced in 1987; son, Thearin R. Wendel of Kensington, MD; sisters, Patricia Pincus of Pittsford, NY, Jacqueline Cestero of Anguilla, BWI; grandson, Alex Wendel of Kensington, MD; daughter-in-law, Sandra Novotny; brother-in-law, Rafael V.M. Cestero.
    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, November 9, 2009, at 9 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD. A memorial gathering was held Monday, November 9, 2009, from 5-8  p.m. at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD.
