The Presque Isle Wildcat cross country teams both participated in Saturday’s Class B state meet, held at the Twin Brook Recreation Center in Cumberland.

The girls and boys squads each qualified by placing fourth in the previous weekend’s Eastern Maine Championships, held at Belfast.
The state event provided much tougher competition, with the girls ending up in 11th position with 237 points. A total of 13 teams competed, with Cape Elizabeth easily beating out York for the top spot. The Capers scored 46 points by having all five of their scorers finish among the top 21 overall.
MDI was Eastern Maine’s top team and was third overall, with John Bapst and Ellsworth rounding out the top five.
The individual champion was Maranacook’s Abby Mace, whose time was 18 minutes and 48 seconds on the 3.1-mile course. In second was Cape’s Emiy Attwood at 19:57, followed by Dacie Manion of Old Town in 20:06.
For Presque Isle, junior Alecia Palmer led the way by coming in 11th place with a 20:48 clocking. Senior Elizabeth Wright was 46th overall in 22:23, with Hallie Bartlett, another senior, placing 62nd out of 95 total competitors in 22:46. Jerica Fox (72nd) and Emily Wright (74th) were the Wildcat girls other scorers.
The boys meet was captured by Greely, who tucked three runners in the top 10 and scored 65 points. Fellow Western Maine schools York and Falmouth were second and third, respectively.
Presque Isle was 10th out of 14 schools with 264 points.
First place for individuals went to Alex Moser of York in 16:14.
The ‘Cats were led by Matt Eager’s 39th-place performance in 18:12. Chris Cawley was 45th in 18:21 and Tyler Hotham 49th in 18:25.
