Caribou – Garth O. Getchell, 81, died November 13, 2009 at Presque Isle. He was born in Limestone, August 20, 1928 the son of D. Emery and Tina (Finnemore) Getchell. He married Phyllis Shaw September 4, 1948.
Garth was a self employed farmer in the Caribou area for 20 years and then he worked for the City of Caribou Highway Department for 25 years, retiring as supervisor in 1993.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of over 61 years, Phyllis Getchell of Presque Isle, are two daughters; Mary Beaulieu of Presque Isle and Patricia Peterson and her husband Michael of Elgin, Ill., His “adoptive daughter” Judy Belanger of Presque Isle. His brother and sister-in-law Frederick and Charlotte Getchell of Lady Lake, Fl. His grandchildren, Rick Beaulieu of Vancouver, Wa., Scott Beaulieu of Beaverton, OR., and Randy Beaulieu of Presque Isle. A sister-in-law Jackie Shaw of Caribou. Several nieces and nephews including a special nephew John Shaw and his children, Andrew, Timmy and Christina, special nieces, Janice Pinette and her husband Mark and their children Ben and Carlee, and Joyce Findlen and her husband Scott and their children Caleb, and Austin.
Mr. Getchell was predeceased by a brother-in-law Jack Shaw, a son-in-law Clifford Beaulieu and a brother Perry.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou.
