Houlton Rec offers youth winter programs

The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the following programs during Christmas school break.
    To register, call the rec at 532-1210 by December 20.
Vacation Fun Program will be held Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 28-30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youth in grades K-6 are invited to attend. Monday will be “Crazy Games,” Tuesday will be “Tournament Time,” and Wednesday will be “Sports Mania” and McDonalds lunch. Parents may sign their children up for one, two, or all three days of activities. Cost will be $4 per day per child plus McDonald’s meal price for Houlton residents and $6 per day per child plus McDonald’s meal price for non-Houlton residents. Youths will need to bring their own lunch and drink on Monday and Tuesday. Each day is limited to 24 youths.
Red Cross Babysitter’s Training will be held on Monday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with instructor Shelly Beals. Youth must be 12 years of age or older. Class limit is 10 youth and there must be six participants to hold the class. The babysitter’s training will be held at the Houlton Recreation Center. Cost for the class is $35 per participant. This will include all materials and snack. Youth will need to bring a lunch and drink. This is a certified babysitter’s course and participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of training. Registration is required.
Sneakin’ in Science program will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29 from 9-11 a.m. at the recreation center. Sarah McQuarrie will be the instructor and will be bringing some new and exciting experiments to the children. Youth between the 10-12 years of age are invited to participate. Cost is $20 per participant and the program is limited to 10 youth. This program will be 100 percent science fun and they might even “sneak” a little learning in along the way. Registration is required.
G-Force Laser Tag will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Houlton Rec Center from 3-5 p.m. for ages 6-12, followed by 12-year-olds and older from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $5 per player per session. Laser Tag is like playing a video game except the participant plays in a real game. There will be door prizes at this event. Bring your friends and get ready for some fun.
Big Rock discounted ski tickets. Once again, the Houlton Recreation Department will be selling Mars Hill Big Rock day ski lift passes. Costs this year are $20 for junior lift tickets for ages 6-17 and $24 for adult lift tickets. Tickets are good for any day the resort is open this winter. These make great holiday gifts for the skier in your family.
Portland Pirate Hockey tickets. New this winter, the Houlton Recreation Department will be selling Portland Pirate discounted flex vouchers. Adult vouchers are $10 each and child/college, student/senior citizens are $9. These vouchers are good for any available main deck seating at the Cumberland County Civic Center home game during the regular 2009-2010 season.
