Twenty-four Caribou Fire and Ambulance personnel responded to a fire at 604 Van Buren Road on Dec. 6. The structure was a total loss.
“Because this address is outside of our fire hydrant area,” stated Chief Wood, “we had to rely on mutual aid for water supply. This water supply aid and also the necessary coverage at the station was provided by Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Limestone and Washburn fire departments.
The Van Buren Road home, vacant at the time of the fire is owned by Tim Guerrette. Guerrette, a full- time firefighter with the Caribou department, was literally in the process of moving back into the home, when the fire occurred.
“Tim had actually just left the address after dropping off some possessions and was traveling back to Caribou to get a second load of items when the call came in,” said Chief Woods.
Twenty-four Caribou Fire and Ambulance personnel were at the house fire scene for four and one-half hours. There were no injuries and the structure, a total loss, was fully insured. Chief Woods said the cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction.
