HODGDON – Waldo "Pert" H. Wilson, 89, went home to be with his Lord Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at his residence. This special man, known as "Pert," was loved by many. He was born Aug. 29, 1920, at his home in Hodgdon, the son of Robert and Flora (Hunter) Wilson.
He was an extremely hard worker who cut wood in the winter and farmed potatoes and grain until age 81. You could always see Dad on the John Deere tractor in the fields. He continued to enjoy the outdoors by picking apples, berries, garden vegetables and lots of fiddleheads. He took great pride in his family, and in the last few years enjoyed cooking. We always joked that he should have been a chef, especially because he excelled in cooking baked beans, homemade chicken stew and pies. We will miss seeing him sitting on the front porch in his favorite chair as he watched the traffic go by. He was an honest man who had a big heart and showed extreme generosity to anyone in need. Pert was a great provider and father to his family of 10 children – five boys and five girls. He dearly loved his 10 children, 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who will thoroughly miss him. The children always brought him great joy, as he always got such a kick out of their antics.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Wilson and his wife, Carole, of Hodgdon, Roger Wilson of Houlton, Reginald Wilson and his wife, Lauren, of New Limerick, and Alan Wilson and his wife, Lisa, of Hodgdon; and his daughters, Pamela Rhoda and her husband, Herbert, of Oakland, Cynthia Wilson of Eddington, Wanda Cumming of Hodgdon, Debra Rosel and her husband, Ken, of Round Hill, Va., and Lynn Oliver and her husband, Joel, of Hodgdon. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; one brother, Robert and his wife, Anita, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law, Ruth Haney of Houlton; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Wilson; and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Patrea Haney Wilson; son, Gary Wilson; great-grandson, Taylor Lynds; brother, Lawrence Wilson; and sisters, Madeline Rawson and Evelyn Simpson. Rest in peace, Dad, with Mom and Gary.
Friends called 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Dunn Funeral Home where funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, with the Rev. Mark Lunn officiating. Interment was at Hodgdon Cemetery. Gifts may be made in Pert's memory to the charity of one's choice, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
