The Pastoral Council of St. Mary of the Visitation in Houlton had its annual Christmas get-together a week before Christmas. Father Dave Raymond hosted the event for some 20 members and their spouses in the church rectory. The group is a consultative body that advises the pastor on all aspects of parish life.
Most of the discussion that night was light-hearted in the rooms that were decorated for the holidays. And, a bountiful assortment of entrees and desserts was spread out on the table that included a choice of roast beef, American chop suey, chicken casserole and a very authentic spanokopita (Greek spinach pie) along with several salads and fruit. The desserts were a delight from the fudge to the cookies, pies and seasoned nuts.
Shirley Reardon has chaired the group for the last four years. He said everything was home-made and delicious. “We have some cooks, you wouldn’t believe and I tried everything.”
Deacon Al Burleigh’s popular wassail was used for a Christmas toast.
