The Mapleton Ladies Extension wishes to invite any area ladies interested in joining their group to a Valentine’s Tea Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lion’s Hall. The ladies will be making valentines to distribute to the nursing home, and those that attend are asked to bring a small plate of cookies to share with the tea that will be provided. Sylvia McHatten will lead this month’s meeting.
Birthday wishes this week go out to Hunter Brown, Tammy Johndro, Jeaudi Landry, Millie Putnam, Cordelia Bard, Joanna Soucy Newlands, Lucinda Edgecomb, Lillian Burke, Alex Kennedy, Mike Nadeau, Adam Rider, Kelsi Shurley, Kayla Carney, Clay Gregg, Shelby Condon, Ricky Carney, Norman Johndro, Alice Sawyer, Maya Barar, Amy Michaud, Sean Bushey and Paul Bushey.
There are no anniversary wishes this week.
The Mapleton Daze Committee will be meeting tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Pizza House. Anyone with ideas to share or a willingness to lend a hand is encouraged to attend.
The Mapleton Parent Organization will be meeting tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the art room. Childcare will be provided. Upcoming events and activities include collecting items for the C.A.N.C.E.R. bags, a fitness night, poetry workshops and staff appreciation week. Please consider attending this meeting to share your ideas or lend a hand!
Courtney Hoffses of Mapleton was named to the Honors List at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine for the fall semester.
To be eligible for the Honors List, a student must attain an average of 3.0-3.49.
There will be an informational meeting for any girls interested in competing in this year’s Mapleton pageants Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. downstairs at the Mapleton Lion’s Hall. Parents are encouraged to attend.
The pageants will be held Saturday, April 10 at Presque Isle High School. The two younger divisions will be held in the afternoon and the three older divisions will be held in the evening. The five age divisions are: Little Miss contestants must be in grades 1-3, Preteen contestants, grades 4-5; Junior Miss, grades 6-8; Teen, grades 9-10; and Miss, grades 11-12.
To be eligible, contestants must be a resident of the community they will be competing in for at least six months prior to July 9, 2010 OR must be a student that attended school in that community for at least half of the last school year.

The United Baptist Church of Mapleton youth group will hold their next meeting Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 6-7 p.m. at the church. This evening will be a fun time of fellowship and learning from God’s word. All young people are encouraged to join this newly formed youth group. If you have any questions, please contact Isaac Ashby at 554-8737 or the Rev. Dr. Ken Phelps at 764-6034.
The United Methodist Church will be hosting its weekly luncheon Friday, Feb. 5 at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

MAPLETON DAISY AND BROWNIE GIRL SCOUT TROOP 1133 recently visited the Mapleton Fire Department as part of their Community Knowledge patch. Assistant Chief Adam Rider spoke about fire safety, fire escape plans, showed the girls what he looked like in his complete fire gear and allowed the girls to sit in a fire truck (with lights and sirens on!). Attending the tour were, front row, from left: Sydney Robichaud, Alexis Getchell, Amanda Winslow, Alexis LaFerriere, Paige Trask, Delaney Alward and Madelyn Buzza. Back row: Rider, Bethany Baker, Rebecca Rider, Katelyn Amero, Jenna Mountain and Brooke Trask. Also accompanying Troop 1133 on the tour was Presque Isle Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout Troop 1137. The troops would like to thank Rider for taking the time to provide a tour of the fire station to nearly 50 girls and parents!
